Volunteer

PTA is a great way to get more involved in your school community and in your child’s education. Our PTA board, committees and members play a vital role in supporting our teachers and administration through fundraising, aiding with classroom preparation, providing helping hands during school events, and much more! See below for a list of some of the ways you can help our PTA. We’d love to have you join us!

Design yearbook pages, take photos, or advertise and sell yearbooks.

Business Manager — Initiates publicity for yearbook sales, submitting e-news, PTA e-notifications, posters, campus phone calls; makes and distributes order forms and enters orders into online sales database. Primary sales are online; however, we must provide opportunity for those who don’t have credit cards or prefer to not use them online.

Lead Editor — Guides theme of book, designs pages, coordinates page design helpers; submits pages to PTA president or other PTA board member for quality control; submits pages to principal for final approvals; submits pages to publisher. Required software is a web browser (IE, Safari, Firefox…) with Flash.

Co-Editor — Assembles photos/graphics on pages as assigned by Lead. Required software is a web browser (IE, Safari, Firefox…) with Flash.

Lead Photographer — Coordinates grade-level photographers to be at events; take photos at whole-school events and daily life (safety patrol, library, music classes, P.E., etc.)

Grade-level photographers — Work with other grade-level photographers to ensure adequate coverage of events like class parties, field trips, or explorations in science. You must get photos of your own class as well as other classes.

Academic Support

Explore Science — Hands on science program organized and run by volunteers. No experience needed. All materials and lessons will be provided. Volunteers will receive instructions in advance to familiarize themselves with the experiments. Day of the event, volunteers will lead the experiments for students.

Discover Learning — Discover Learning is a program designed around classroom curriculum taking lessons to the next level, immersing students in the subject matter.  Whether it be stepping into the plains of Texas to study Indian tribes, or stepping into China to explore holiday traditions, our children get a unique perspective on the lessons they've learned in class.

On Site Support

Literacy Library — Assist teachers with the organization and distribution of additional learning resources required in the classroom. You will be trained and guided by the Volunteer Coordinator. Duties will include sorting, shelving, and check in/out of books and other equipment as requested by the teachers. (This is separate from the library.)

Workroom — Copy, staple, laminate, sort, hole punch and more. Sign up and work in the teacher workroom once a month or more often if you want.

GUIDES — Guys United in Developing Explorer Success. Dads, step-dads, uncles, and grandfathers can participate by signing up to be a volunteer for a day during the school year. The GUIDES help with a variety of activities throughout the day, including helping in their student's classroom, P.E., art, music, the lunchroom, eating lunch with their Explorer, going to recess, participating in special grade level activities, and more.

Volunteer Workdays — Younger-sibling-friendly work day, on campus, with other parents and grandparents. Gather in the Large Group Instruction room and get tasks done that help the teachers. We may laminate, cut, glue, color, assemble, hole-punch...or whatever our teachers need to have done to help their classes run efficiently.

Class Parties — Grade-level coordinator has a budget that they must work within to plan snacks, drinks, and entertainment. Grade-level coordinator coordinates purchase of supplies for parties. Volunteers host games or entertainment, distribute treats, and help teacher tidy up to restore class.

Hospitality

Teacher and Staff Appreciation — Organize and host appreciation events such as luncheons, brunches, or memento distribution. Chairperson plans event with theme and design, working with principal and PTA president when necessary. Volunteers gather materials, make decorations, set up event, organize catering or order and pick-up food, and event clean-up.

Fundraising

Online Auction (spring only) — Help collect auction items to be donated, work with PTA publicity to make the community aware, and follow up after auction to deliver items won.

Fundraising Events — Assist with set up and break down of additional PTA equipment that may be needed. Help with the distribution of fundraising kits, promotional information to parents, and prizes to students

Spirit Nights — Work with community businesses to schedule one spirit night a month, be the contact person between that business and the school, work with PTA publicity to notify Explorer families, and follow up after the event to collect donations.

School Store — Chairperson maintains and orders inventory, and coordinates sales events, approximately four times per year. Set up items on tables in LGI for sales during recess. Sell school supplies and spirit items.
